Drainage Services for Consultants and Engineers Across Scotland

Specialist CCTV drainage surveys, tracing, GPS/GNSS asset mapping and technical reporting to support engineering design, construction planning and the management of existing drainage infrastructure.

Envirotech provides factual survey evidence for consultants, civil engineers and project teams, from feasibility and due diligence through to pre-construction inspections and post-works verification.

Technical Drainage Support Throughout Your Project

Existing drainage records may be incomplete or unverified. We work with your drawings, required reporting standard and the site conditions to establish appropriate survey methods, locate accessible assets and provide evidence for project decisions.

Consultancy & Design-Stage Support

Investigations can reduce uncertainty about buried drainage assets before a design is finalised or a construction programme begins.

  • Feasibility and due-diligence surveys
  • Verification of existing drainage plans
  • Foul and surface-water connectivity checks
  • CCTV inspection and defect recording
  • Sonde tracing and approximate depth observations
  • GNSS asset locations and drawing information

Engineering & Construction Support

Condition records and connectivity evidence can inform the protection, alteration or repair of existing assets during construction and delivery.

  • Pre-construction sewer condition surveys
  • Large-diameter crawler CCTV inspections
  • Pre-works and post-works records
  • Asset location and identification
  • Drainage cleaning ahead of inspection
  • Clear documentation of defects and access limits

Surveying, Tracing and Mapping in Practice

Better Information for Engineering Decisions

Unexpected connections, deteriorated sewers and inaccurately recorded drainage routes can create uncertainty at the design or construction stage. Our surveys help establish what is visible, accessible and supported by evidence — and where further investigation is still required.

Condition Evidence

CCTV footage, defect observations and chainage help record accessible pipe condition at the time of inspection.

Connectivity and Position

Dye testing, sonde tracing and GNSS observations can clarify accessible asset locations, routes and connections.

Survey Scope and Limitations

We identify inaccessible or incomplete sections, survey constraints and observations needing further work.

Specialist Services for Consultants and Engineers

Choose the technical service that meets your project requirements, or combine several methods in one coordinated drainage investigation.

Record accessible drainage assets, route information and site observations to support drawings and project coordination.

Push-rod and crawler camera inspections with footage, defect observations and WinCan/MSCC5 reporting where specified.

Investigate routes, outfalls, connections and hidden drainage through CCTV, sonde tracing and dye testing.

Investigate and repair confirmed defects using suitable patch lining, relining or excavated repair methods.

Specialist inspection and investigation of suitable restricted-access drainage assets under agreed safe systems of work.

Remove deposits and obstructions where cleaning is required to restore access or make pipework surveyable.

Our Survey Process: From Brief to Report

We agree the required information and survey limitations at the outset, then tailor the fieldwork and reporting to your project stage.

1

Review the Brief

Confirm supplied drawings, survey references, safety requirements, assets to be investigated and agreed outputs.

2

Prepare for Survey

Plan site access and cleaning or enabling work where necessary to make the agreed pipework surveyable.

3

Investigate and Record

Complete appropriate CCTV, tracing, dye testing and mapping, documenting any access restrictions.

4

Report and Handover

Issue the agreed footage, schedules, observations, drawings and recommendations for further action.

SuDS and Surface-Water Investigation Support

We investigate accessible elements of sustainable drainage and conventional surface-water systems to help consultants identify routes, connections and visible maintenance or condition issues. This can include catchpits, chambers, connecting pipes, flow-control structures and outfalls, subject to safe access and surveyability.

What We Can Investigate

Locating accessible chambers and outfalls, CCTV inspection of connecting pipework, sonde tracing, dye testing, recording sediment, debris, standing water and defects, and identifying where further cleaning or inspection is needed.

What Requires Separate Design Assessment

Our surveys provide factual field observations; they do not establish hydraulic capacity, infiltration performance or formal SuDS design compliance. Hydraulic modelling, design and statutory approval remain with the appointed designer and relevant authorities.

For design and approval requirements, refer to the CIRIA SuDS Manual C753 and Scottish Water wastewater connection technical standards.

Project Example: 900 mm Sewer Pre-Construction Survey

Crawler CCTV survey of a 900 mm surface-water sewer in Cumbernauld

Envirotech undertook a pre-construction CCTV inspection of an existing 900 mm surface-water sewer in Cumbernauld for a consultancy client. The large-diameter crawler survey created a condition baseline before nearby construction activity.

The recorded inspection and reporting documented the accessible pipework and identified no significant visible defects in the surveyed section, providing information for the project team and supporting evidence for Scottish Water.

Technical Reporting You Can Work With

Reporting requirements vary by stage of a project. We can agree survey references, condition coding, asset schedules and drawing formats before mobilisation so the results are suitable for the intended technical review.

CCTV, WinCan and MSCC5 Reports

Recorded footage, still images, pipe details and defect observations, with MSCC5 coding where specified and accessible sections documented.

Tracing, Mapping and Drawings

Sonde-derived routes and approximate depths, GNSS asset observations, connectivity findings and annotated PDF or CAD outputs as agreed.

Drainage mapping drawing showing underground pipe routes and connections

Survey coverage is limited by safe access, water levels, deposits, obstructions and equipment reach. Sonde-derived depths are approximate; CCTV observations do not alone verify watertightness, hydraulic capacity or design compliance. Consultancy and Engineering FAQs

Answers to common questions about drainage surveys, reporting and feasibility-stage investigations.

Can you survey drainage before construction begins?

Yes. We carry out pre-construction condition surveys of accessible foul and surface-water pipework, including large-diameter sewers where suitable access and survey equipment are available.

What information can you provide for engineering drawings?

Depending on the agreed scope, outputs can include CCTV observations, pipe details, route tracing, GNSS asset coordinates, connectivity findings and annotated PDF or CAD drainage drawings.

Can you confirm pipe routes, depths and SuDS performance?

We can trace accessible routes, record approximate sonde depths and investigate accessible SuDS pipework and chambers. Hydraulic modelling, infiltration testing, statutory approvals and detailed SuDS design sit with the appointed designer or specialist.

Need Drainage Evidence for Your Next Project?

Send us your survey specification, drawings or project brief. We can discuss a practical investigation scope, access requirements and appropriate deliverables.
