High Level Refrigeration Drainage Clearance & Descaling
Envirotech Drainage Solutions was brought in to investigate and resolve a recurring blockage affecting the high-level refrigeration drainage network within an operational retail supermarket in Perth.
The restriction had caused wastewater to back up within the drainage system, resulting in leakage onto the shop floor. Previous attempts to clear the system had been unsuccessful, requiring a more specialist approach to access and clean the elevated drainage pipework.

Project Overview
The affected drainage network was located at high level above the retail environment, making conventional access and clearance methods difficult.
With the system continuing to back up and leak into the shop floor area, Envirotech was appointed to establish suitable access and undertake a more extensive clearance and descaling of the affected pipework.
Due to the location of the drainage network and the requirement to minimise disruption to supermarket operations, the works were planned out of hours and required specialist work-at-height access arrangements.

Specialist High Level Drainage Clearance
Access to the high-level refrigeration drainage network was a central challenge. Sections of the pipework were positioned above the operational retail area, beyond the reach of conventional floor-level cleaning methods.
Specialist work-at-height access arrangements enabled the team to reach and work directly on the affected pipework. Significant internal deposits and restrictions were encountered, requiring mechanical clearance and descaling to remove accumulated material.
Following cleaning, the system was flushed to remove loosened deposits and flow tested through the accessible sections. The works took place out of hours to minimise disruption to the supermarket’s normal operations.

Project Outcome
The specialist clearance and descaling works removed restrictions from accessible sections of the high-level refrigeration drainage network and improved drainage flow.
Direct access to the elevated pipework allowed Envirotech to treat sections that had proved difficult to clear previously. Flushing and subsequent flow testing provided evidence of improved performance through the accessible system following cleaning.
The works addressed the immediate drainage restriction and helped reduce the risk of wastewater backing up onto the shop floor. The project also highlighted the importance of suitable access arrangements and planned maintenance for difficult-to-reach drainage installations in operational commercial premises.
