PROJECT 01 / UTILITIES & INFRASTRUCTURE / SCOTLAND-WIDE

CSO Cleaning & Maintenance Programme

Envirotech Drainage Solutions supported Clancy on a programme of cleaning and maintenance works across combined sewer overflow assets for Scottish Water throughout Scotland.

The programme involved working across a wide range of locations, including remote and island sites, with each visit requiring careful planning around access, site conditions and the individual drainage asset.

THE CHALLENGE

Project Overview

Combined sewer overflow assets form an important part of wastewater infrastructure and require periodic inspection, cleaning and maintenance to help keep systems operating effectively.

Further information on how these assets operate is available from Scottish Water – Overflows Explained.

Envirotech supported the wider programme by attending designated assets across Scotland and carrying out drainage cleaning and maintenance works in accordance with the requirements of each site.

THE BRIEF

Scope Of Works

Works included:

  • Cleaning and maintenance of CSO assets
  • High-pressure water jetting where required
  • Removal of accumulated debris and deposits
  • Inspection of accessible drainage infrastructure
  • Site-specific access planning
  • Coordination around remote and island locations
  • Recording of completed works
  • Site photographs and condition observations
  • Reporting of defects or further maintenance requirements
  • Out-of-hours attendance where required

ON SITE / TECHNICAL DELIVERY

CSO Cleaning, Maintenance & Reporting

Each asset was approached according to its individual access arrangements, condition and maintenance requirements.

Specialist drainage cleaning equipment was used to remove accumulated material and restore accessible sections of the system where required. Works were coordinated around live infrastructure, local site constraints and the requirements of the wider programme.

Following each attendance, completed works, site observations and relevant findings were recorded and reported, providing the project team with a consistent record of activity across the programme.

The geographical spread of the works also required careful logistical planning, with Envirotech mobilising to mainland, remote and island locations as required.

THE RESULT

Project Outcome

The programme demonstrated Envirotech’s ability to support large-scale drainage and wastewater maintenance works across multiple locations while maintaining a consistent approach to site delivery and reporting.

Cleaning and maintenance activities helped remove accumulated debris and deposits from accessible assets, while observations made during attendance allowed further maintenance requirements or potential issues to be highlighted to the wider project team.

The works also demonstrated the team’s ability to mobilise across challenging locations, including remote areas and island sites, while maintaining clear communication and structured reporting throughout the programme.

Supporting a multi-site infrastructure programme of this scale strengthened Envirotech’s experience in delivering drainage services within live utility environments and working alongside major contractors and asset owners.
